A Carnet
lf you are bringing equipment into the UK from overseas we recommend that you obtain an ATA Carnet.
The ATA carnet is an international Customs document that can be used in different countries around the world to cover temporary use of goods in the UK without payment of Customs charges.

Using a carnet:
§ simplifies Customs clearance of goods in exporting and importing countries by replacing Customs documents that would normally be required.
§ provides a financial security for Customs charges potentially due on the goods that will be used in the countries visited.
§ helps to overcome language barriers and having to complete unfamiliar Customs forms.
ATA Carnets are issued by Chambers of Commerce or similar issuing associations that are approved by the Customs authorities in the country where they operate. The decision to issue a carnet is entirely a matter for the issuing association in the originating country. An ATA Carnet allows for the temporary import of goods into the UK, and other participating countries, without paying import duties or taxes, typically for up to one year.
The carnet must be presented to customs upon each entry and exit of the UK and any other participating country.
Carnet agreements exist between the UK and the following countries:
